NEW DELHI: The BCCI confirmed allrounder Axar Patel as Ravindra Jadeja’s replacement in the Indian squad for the third and final Test against Sri Lanka at Pallekelle starting Saturday. Jadeja was suspended by the ICC for one match match after accumulating demerit points, and Axar, currently with the India A team for a tri-series in South Africa, has been asked to rush to Sri Lanka.
Axar has taken 35 wickets in ODIs at an average of 30.20, with best bowling figures of 3/39, and seven wickets in T20Is and is having an impressive tri-series. He has taken six wickets at 15.50, with a best of 3/33 against Afghanistan A. Axar is likely to leave for Sri Lanka after playing the final of that tri-series against South Africa A in Pretoria on Tuesday.
This is Axar’s maiden Test call-up. His last official match for India was against New Zealand during the fifth ODI at Vizag on October 29 last year, where he had taken two wickets for nine runs in just 4.1 overs and scored an 18-ball 24 as India thrashed New Zealand by 190 runs to clinch series 3-2.
