Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said here on Wednesday that the party has discovered its political space (in West Bengal), where the Left parties have lost their relevance.
He said the Trinamool Congress has emerged as the new Left. “People ask how the Left and the Trinamool can get together to oppose the BJP and its policies in Parliament,” he said
“The non-Trinamool space now belongs to the BJP”, Mr Jaitley said, reiterating that the Left has lost its relevance.
During the meeting held in Howrah district across the Hooghly, actress Rupa Ganguly and former Indian goal keeper Kalyan Choubey joined the party and were given party flags by Mr Jaitley. Ms Ganguly won fame enacting Draupadi’s role in the mega TV serial Mahabharata .
He said that in the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP won two seats in the State but had got many votes even in the ones that it had lost. “We did very well in the by-elections too”, he added.
In an oblique reference to the blocking of several critical legislations by the Opposition, Mr Jaitley said: “ Rajya Sabha chaley na chale .. desh chalega ’ (whether the Rajya Sabha functions or not the country will go on).
