After Parliament debates on chopper deal, party to focus on Vadra
The BJP plans to continue its targeting of the Congress in general and the Gandhi family in particular, though both Houses of Parliament have concluded debates on the controversial AgustaWestland VVIP chopper deal.
Party MP from Mumbai North East Kirit Somaiya has moved a notice in the Lok Sabha to raise alleged scams involving Congress chief Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law and businessman, Robert Vadra.
Mr. Somaiya, who has also written to the Enforcement Directorate on certain land deals involving Mr. Vadra, said these were done with “non-transparent” money.
“I will raise the issue in the Lok Sabha; it is up to the Speaker [Sumitra Mahajan] to decide under what rule it is admitted,” he said.
Letter to ED
“I have submitted earlier details of various non-transparent solar project land transactions of the Vadra group,” Mr. Somaiya says in his letter to the ED — uploaded on his website and micro blogging site Twitter — seeking action on alleged illegal non-transparent land dealings and cheating of farmers.
Mr. Somaiya is a member of Parliament’s most powerful Public Accounts Committee where some BJP members have been pressing for it to take up a Comptroller and Auditor General report on the AgustaWestland deal. “The newly constituted PAC is yet to meet, but we do want the panel to take it up as and when we meet,” Mr. Somaiya told The Hindu.
