Both KCR, Naidu have a vision: Governor

press club of india, Indian Tehalka News

Nearly six years after he took over as the Governor of then united Andhra Pradesh, E.S.L. Narasimhan has been an ocean of calm amidst the turbulent times of bifurcation and events after it. His “fatherly” advice to both the T.S. and A.P. governments seems to have had its effect at last and he looks back with quiet satisfaction.

More than a year after bifurcation, have things gone as per the plan according to you?

It’s been 17 months, 12 days since Telangana was born and 16 months and 27 days since A.P. formation took place. Both States are slated for accelerated development with capable Chief Ministers in K. Chandrasekhar Rao and N. Chandrababu Naidu. The welfare of people is on their minds, there is stability, so people are also happy.

How do you see the thaw between the CMs after months of bitterness?

Both Chief Ministers have the rare opportunity of laying foundation for new States development.

They have a vision and it is good that invitation for the capital foundation has been extended by Mr. Naidu and accepted by Mr. Rao. They both have my support.

Were there instances in the last one-and-a-half years where you were in an embarrassing situation…when people were criticising you?

These are all occupational hazards Those who made all the remarks against also withdrew them within no time. The Governor’s office has no role {on political defections or T. Srinivas Yadav’s issue}, with regard to matters of the Legislative Assembly no one else but the Speaker can take action.

Did you ever feel constrained in taking any action in the absence of ‘special powers’?

Where is the need? Governor has certain role to play, that role I have played. There is a popularly elected government in place and my role is to be the father figure. I think I have fulfilled the role to the best of my abilities. It’s been a good 17 months down the line. I keep talking to bother the Chief Ministers

Do you want to comment on the delay in selection of vice-chancellors of universities?

Whatever be the selection process, quality of V-Cs is of paramount importance. They should be persons of impeccable integrity and men of letters. Quality of education and employability should be ensured.
