As the city prepares to usher in 2016, bars and restaurants have been permitted by the police to remain open till 1 a.m. from Thursday till the New Year’s Eve.
Restaurants and pubs that want to make the best of the festive season have to approach the Excise Department to get the required permissions. The order passed by the police can be deemed as no-objection certificate for the period for restaurants and bars to approach the Excise Department for seeking permissions. The rule, however, will not apply to wine and liquor shops under the CL-2 category licence. These shops will have to stick to the 11.30 p.m. deadline.
“Establishments availing themselves of the facilities under the order should inform the jurisdictional police station and ensure that no nuisance is created, including the playing of loud music,” said Police Commissioner N.S. Megharikh in his statement. However, playing of music will be permitted on December 31 night.
The Police Commissioner has issued a strict warning to partygoers and establishments and said that they would be responsible for maintaining of order within their premises and that violations would be dealt with strictly by the police.
