Andhra Pradesh has reached a major milestone in energy efficiency activities when the number of LED bulbs distributed under Demand Side Management–based Efficient Lighting Programme (DELP) crossed one crore on Friday evening.
It is a world record for distribution of the highest number of LED bulbs in a year, according to press release by State Energy Conservation Mission (SECM) CEO A. Chandrasekhar Reddy.
He stated that Union Minister for Power Piyush Goyal has congratulated the people of A.P for the accomplishment, on twitter. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu appreciated the efforts of Chief Secretary I.Y.R. Krishna Rao, Energy Secretary Ajay Jain and other officials of the Energy Department for making the energy efficiency movement a grand success.
In the same vein, Mr. Naidu exhorted the SECM, DISCOMs and other key departments to make AP the best energy efficient state in the country as well as in the world.
The Chief Minister has also appreciated the role played by Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), which is the designated Energy Services Company (ESCO) involved in the DELP, for setting a new benchmark for other states in energy efficiency activities.
Distribution of LED bulbs at the national level reached 3.15 crore.
In his message, EESL Managing Director Saurabh Kumar stated that the success story of A.P in distribution of LED bulbs was likely to be discussed in United National Climate Change Conference to be held in Paris.
DELP is currently underway in Krishna, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, Prakasam and Chittoor districts where on an average 1.50 lakh bulbs are being distributed every day. The district-wise targets and numbers distributed so far are given below.
