The Crime Investigation Department (CID) branch of Rohtak police, on receiving a tip off from the Intelligence Bureau, arrested a man said to be an ISI spy and accused him of sharing highly sensitive information about the Indian Army with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
The arrested man, identified as Gaurav Sharma, hails from Gannaur area of Sonipat. Sharma’s father is a retired Indian Army Havaldar.
Sharma allegedly supplied army recruitment information to the Pakistani ISI agent as much as I8 times using video calling feature and by going live from social media platforms.
Gaurav Sharma said that he shared information about 18 different Indian Army recruitment drives conducted in Nashik, Secunderabad besides other areas so far. He was about to cover the next recruitment drive in Chennai on Tuesday.
Gaurav also confessed to have shared secret information about Hisar and Rohtak cantonments. For the last three months, he was stying in a hostel of a Rohtak-based academy that provides coaching for army recruitment.
Gaurav Sharma told police that he appeared in 18 recruitment tests in the past four years but could not clear the physical test. He is likely to be questioned by NIA officials.
Sources said that Sharma shared highly sensitive information pertaining to recruitment, military operations, movement of army vehicles and army officers through video calling and photos.
