The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday alleged that the raid on Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s office earlier this week was an attempt to cover up corruption in the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA).

Terming it the “Commonwealth Games scam of cricket” the AAP demanded that Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley resign to ensure a fair probe. The AAP leaders, armed with the report of a government-constituted inquiry committee, alleged that the DDCA siphoned off money through proxy firms. “They were paying five companies which have the same address, same email IDs and same directors,” they said.

AAP spokesperson Raghav Chadha said the DDCA got a Rs. 24-crore worth project sanctioned for construction of a portion of the stadium, but later paid Rs.114 crore. “Where is the remaining Rs. 90 crore,” he asked.

The Delhi government had set up the probe panel on the instructions of the Sports Ministry in July. Mr. Jaitley headed the DDCA from 1999 to 2013. He later became its chief patron till December 2014.

Aam Aadmi Party spokesperson Raghav Chadha on Thursday accused Arun Jaitley of turning the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) into an elite club during his stint with it. “Mr. Jaitley appointed selectors without following any procedure. He turned the DDCA into an elite club where no common man’s son could ever get in,” Mr. Chadha said.

The party leaders also alleged that a loan of Rs. 1.55 crore was given to companies without any reason for the grant.

“Companies were paid for not doing any work. Mr. Jaitley never followed the tendering procedure,” AAP leader Ashutosh said.
