Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday lauded Bihar Chief Minister and his party’s alliance partner Nitish Kumar for his “development planks and programmes.”

He also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi for changing clothes 16 times during his recent visit to the United States and reiterated that the NDA government was “suit-boot ki sarkar.”

“Nitish Kumar has done a lot for the development of Bihar … I fully support his seven-point programme focussing on employment for youth, women, education, drinking water and infrastructure,” said Mr. Gandhi, addressing a campaign meeting at Barbigha in Sheikhpura district of Bihar.

    ‘Promises will be kept’

Mr. Gandhi appealed to the people to vote for Mr. Kumar with whom the Congress had entered into an alliance and “defeat the BJP.” “Whatever Nitish Kumar has promised will be fulfilled… Unlike the BJP and the Prime Minister, we keep our promises. They are anti-poor but we will stand by you, be seen with you and will fight your cause,” said the Congress leader.

Connecting with the crowd, Mr. Gandhi asked, “Have you seen Nitish Kumar wearing anything other than white kurta? … He goes to the poor people, but PM Modi meets only corporate giants and businessmen … keeps changing his clothes … during his recent visit to America he changed his clothes 16 times.”
