SCB residents to get new house numbers

press club of india, Indian Tehalka News

The residents of Secunderabad Cantonment will soon get a comprehensible address as physical survey of the area has ended, and GIS mapping is nearing completion.

House numbers in cantonment area were last given in 1950. Pending a physical survey and given unavailability of exact number of properties in cantonment, a house numbering system did not exist until recently. After the GIS mapping exercise which will end this month, addresses comprising house number, street name or number and ward number will be provided to the residents. Properties in cantonment area currently rely on builder-provided plot numbers.

The survey exercise carried out by a third-party service provider also located for the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB), an additional 30,000 properties which did not exist as per its tax records and hence remain unassessed. Their assessment and subsequent taxation is expected to significantly boost property tax revenue.

As per existing SCB’s tax records, there are 35,000 properties which have helped the board generate around Rs. 29 crore last financial year.

The physical location survey of properties was completed in three months while GIS mapping has been completed in four wards. In the remaining four wards, the GIS exercise will be completed by month-end, SCB official informed.

“It is still not decided how residents will display their new house numbers, but we are contemplating plates,” an official informed said adding assessment of new properties will also begin soon.
